Mentor: April Leasure
I chose my mom to be my mentor because she has helped me with my donation journey since I was five years old. My mom is the most kind-hearted person I know, and I truly believe that she's the reason why I started doing donation work in the first place. She has always taught me to be nice and compassionate to others, and that it is important to help those in need. She is hard-working, driven, passionate, and is quick to come up with a solution to any problem that arises. For all of those reasons, I knew she would be a perfect mentor for me. As a student, she has always pushed me to try my hardest and to be the best version of myself, academically and in general. I have learned many things from my mom, including how to empathize with people who are less fortunate than us, how to be organized and stay on task, and how to follow through with something once you set your mind to it. Lastly, she taught me how to be practical when shopping with my donation money, how to formulate a letter for our community to educate them on the best way to get involved, how to organize donation pickups, and how to set up and execute the care and food packages.
